Proficiency in the pronunciation, spelling, and definitions of medical terms, the use of the medical dictionary and related reference materials will be emphasized.

OT 203/HIMT 20303: Electronic Health Records

This course is designed to familiarize students with the capabilities of an Electronic Health Records program. Students will use a computer program to maintain patient files, schedule appointments, store treatment information, enter diagnosis with procedures to locate medical codes for billing, and submit claims to an insurance company.

OT 263/HIMT 26303: Intermediate Medical Coding (spring semester)

This continuation course deals with Intermediate principles of coding using both ICD-10-CM AND CPT-4, focus is based on physicians office and outpatient settings. Experience with coding of medical records as well as use of an encoder and the administrative aspects of coding will be emphasized.

OT 1213/HIMT 12103: Medical Office Internship

The student will be placed in a medical facility during their last semester under the direction of an agency supervisor and qualified faculty member. The student will have one required job placement and attend seminar classes to integrate classroom work with the internship.
